How to Succeed at practically anything:
Let me begin by saying, “You don’t fail until you quit”. It’s not the resources available to you that makes a difference, it is your ability to be resourceful. We live in a world where everything you have ever wanted to know is on the internet, free and available anytime you are willing. All you need is a dream, a vision, or a goal.
Everyone measures success differently. My personal measurement of success is just to be able to do what I love and be good at it. Of course I set goals that I work towards, but the true success, is just being able to do what I love, no matter the amount of money I make. I know that if I work hard enough and stay focused, my monetary rewards will come.
Here are some things I have discovered as I get older about being successful:
It’s your dream, your goal, your vision: You cannot expect other people to see and feel what you do. Loved ones will try and talk you out of pursuing your dreams because they think they are protecting you. They think they are helping you. Don’t let that stop you. You will find more haters when you are working towards your goal than you ever though existed. Its ok, it truly is. Just remind yourself that you are saving someone else the misery of being the brunt of their conversation. Worrying about what they think of you and how they feel about you is just going to take your focus off what is important. Put your blinders on and trudge away.
Staying focused: This is definitely the hardest one of all. You have to be so in love with what you are doing and so committed, determined and confident that what you are doing is exactly what you are supposed to be doing. You have to know with every inch of your body that this will work, there will be set backs and that’s ok, consider them learning experiences. Don’t beat yourself up, just continue where you left off. Always remember, no matter how far you have come, you are still ahead of where you were before you started.
Attitude: You will have days where you want to throw in the towel and everyone you talk to just makes you angry. Welcome to adulthood. We ALL have those days. Happy or not. It’s so important to surround yourself with happy, motivated people that think like you. I promise you, when you spend time with or around people who are unhappy, sad and negative all the time, it will affect how you see the world. Attitude is contagious, be the light. People are naturally drawn to happy people.
Allow your dream to morph: Sometimes when you have a dream, vision or goal, it’s hard to see all the possibilities in front of you. Give yourself permission to expand or alter your vision. It may be that you just didn’t or couldn’t see the whole part and were only getting small glimpses of the whole. It’s incredible to just allow the momentum to take over once it gets moving.
Give yourself permission: Today’s society leads us to believe that we shouldn’t want to be happy, wealthy, or take care of ourselves. We all suffer from guilt when it comes to taking care of ourselves. That would make us self-centered, yet the media portrays everyone as happy. Just look at magazine covers. TV commercials. God intended us to rejoice in life, do it. If working makes you happy, do it. If making money makes you happy, do it. Just remember, what goes around comes around, and if you aren’t doing good, it will bite you in your butt eventually.
Sound simple? On paper of course it is. This is real life. It’s not just that simple. It’s a struggle every day for everyone trying to do what they know is best. Rest assured, you are not alone, but always remember, only you can live your life. Make the best of it, it’s the only one you get.
